I am going after these drops tomorrow

These two domains are dropping tomorrow & I am going to try & chase.

Stubby.us doesn’t concern me, but Jacket.com is nice. I am sure many have backordered this domain, but since the drop is public & anyone can grab it, I’m going to try. I’m sure I won’t grab it. But if I do, it would be awesome.

This is one of those “weird” domains that every drop catcher complains about. The whois is fuzzy & so is the origin of the domain. The current registrar is Tucows which will be releasing the name real soon. The major forums would tell you to backorder at NameJet, Snap & Pool.

However, note this.. Here is a copy of the whois:

Domain Name: JACKET.COM
Registrar: TUCOWS INC.
Whois Server: whois.tucows.com
Referral URL: http://domainhelp.opensrs.net
Name Server: DNS1.IN2NET.COM
Name Server: DNS2.IN2NET.COM
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Status: clientUpdateProhibited
Updated Date: 13-oct-2009
Creation Date: 31-jul-1997
Expiration Date: 30-jul-2011

Ok, so according to dnmeter.com, Jacket.com will drop around 1:51PM CST.

Tucows has a status of: clientTransferProhibited which should be pending delete.

I’ll make sure to keep an eye on it, but the domain will probably drop. It has to since Verisign has it on it’s drop list for tomorrow.

  • Is it really dropping tomorrow ? Expiration date 30-jul-2011. Normally it would be at the maximum JUL 2010.

  • Kevin says:

I think it was renewed within the last few days. Here’s an email from my GoDaddy domain monitor:

We have noted that the following changes occurred between 10/12/2009 and 10/13/2009:

The domain expiration date has been changed:
    OLD: 30-jul-2009
    NEW: 30-jul-2011

The domain status has been changed:
    OLD: pendingDelete
    NEW: clientTransferProhibited

    for the following name(s):

  • Go Daddy will not charge You a fee if Go Daddy cancels Your domain name during this period because of fraud. Parking Domains

  • Gazzip says:

Best of luck getting JACKET.com, as far as I could tell last night even though Pool and Namejet still showed it as pending delete it has just been registered until 2011.

I “suspect” that the registrar TUCOWS has decided to siphon off JACKET.com for themselves and it will not drop at all….we shall soon find out !

    Good Luck :)

  • Chris says:

Yes, that can happen much times, exactly that remembers me on past times, there were a few good hotel names in pending delete status and just the last day before release they becomed registered again ;)

  • bugui says:

It was renewed,so no one can grab it.

  • jason says:

if you were trying to get a top tier name why would you post it here? That name (if it went to drop auction) would go for well in the xx,xxx

    LOL !!

  • Patrick McDermott says:

“It was renewed,so no one can grab it.”

Bugui, a domain cannot be renewed in the Pending Release stage.
I believe Gazzip hit the nail on the head, “TUCOWS has decided to siphon off JACKET.com for themselves and it will not drop at all”.

Tucows is notorious for this behavior.

  • admin says:

Thanks for the input everyone. I didn’t mean to point the finger at Tucows & it was a coincidence that they siphoned the domain secretly in pending delete state. I always heard about this, but never found a working example. I guess the date threw it off & DNClips is right about the expiration date. Gazzip & Patrick, I have to agree with you guys.

My how I wish I had the power the registrars have. It must be a shame & slap to the face to whoever let this gem drop. I didn’t chase stubby.us as I was determined Jacket.com was dropping since it came from the official Verisign pending delete list.

  • Dtagr says:

Tucows stinks. Unfortunately due to their position within CIRA their despicable behaviour is not likely to change.

  • jeffcool says:

Maybe I am wrong but if a customer mandates a company (a registar) to take care and keep an asset secure (domain name) does it mean the whole asset can be taken by the company if the customer doesn’t pay his service fee ? Is it not stealing ? Just a question.
